M&S Celebrates 100 Years of Fashion With its First LFW Catwalk

British Vogue editor Naomi Smart talks to Lisa Illis, Head of Womenswear Design, and discovers the inspiration behind our landmark collection that showed at London Fashion Week today

A century of style

To celebrate a hundred years of fashion at Marks & Spencer, we held our first-ever catwalk show at London Fashion Week today with a collection inspired by iconic pieces from our vast design archive in Leeds.

Vogue's Shopping Director, Naomi Smart, joined M&S's Head of Womenswear Design, Lisa Illis, to discover how heritage pieces from the archive shaped and influenced the groundbreaking collection, drawing on the stories, silhouettes and fashion moments that have shaped a century of M&S style.

Behind the scenes

Lisa shared how the team took elements from the archived garments to inform the design of the new collection, creating a modern yet authentic interpretation of classic M&S pieces from across the last century.

A case in point is the vintage shearling jacket – a St. Michael original brought in by one of the designers to inspire the team – which has been reimagined for the autumn 2026 collection.

Icons in the making

The 59-outfit collection encapsulates everything from lingerie – with camisoles and slips in chartreuse satin designed to be 'worn to be seen' – to knitwear and tailoring in key autumnal shades of khaki and bright red.

Standout pieces include a tuxedo-style jacket and double-breasted suit (as worn by Lisa), both drawing influence from classic menswear design and the wide-legged silhouette of the 1940s.
